Howard, MSW from Special Service for Groups (SSG) and Rishi
Manchanda, M.D., MPH, South Los Angeles Homeless Prevention and
Intervention Collaborative, will share their processes and experience=
s in
producing two outstanding data-based reports.
David's repo=
rt,
"Unsheltered" presents data to help policymakers, service
providers and community members to highlight the socioeconomic
disparities that plague SPA 6 and help account for the large homeless
population in that area.
Rishi's repo=
rt,
"Taming the Perfect Storm," addresses the impact of public
health, housing, and law enforcement policies on homelessness and hea=
lth
in South Los Angeles in a framework of human rights.
The presentation will include a facilitated discussion
among attendees about:

· What data other regional/SPA groups have and what
they need
=
· What
aspects of the SPA 6 policy agenda reflect needs of the entire region=
and
should be part of the UHHP policy "platform"
David Howard=
has served as the Policy Associate =
at
Special Service for Groups (SSG) for the past year and a half. His wo=
rk
in the Census Data and Geographic Information Services (CD & GIS)
department helps support the various SSG programs by providing data a=
nd
research. David is currently working on a new project with the
United Way of Greater Los Angeles and the California Community Founda=
tion
to provide program planning and evaluation guidance to a number of lo=
cal
nonprofit organizations. David is also pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Wel=
fare
at UCLA, with a specific focus on nonprofit human service
organizations."
As Director of Social Medicine and
Health Equity at St. John's Well Child and Family Center, Rishi
Manchanda coordinates the strategic alignment of clinical,
research, advocacy and quality improvement programs. The clinic's Pro=
gram
in Social Medicine and Health Equity employs community based
participatory research methods in collaboration with local partners t=
o address
social determinants of health in South Los Angeles. Board-certified in
both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Manchanda provides primary
care at St. John's and is a member of the National Health Service Cor=
ps.
